New Volcano erupted in an uninhabited area on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula but now its not live

A volcano erupted about 19 miles (30 km) from Iceland’s city, Reykjavik. This is the 8th time in the last three years that this area has seen an eruption. This eruption brings both amazing natural events and worries for the people who live nearby. Let us find out more about what is going on with this volcano.

Eruption Details

  • Location and Smoke Emission: The eruption happened in a small depression just north of Litli Hrtur. According to Iceland’s weather office, the smoke went in a north-westerly direction. Local news cameras caught a huge cloud of smoke coming up from the ground, along with a large rush of lava.
  • Earthquake Activity: In the week before the eruption, thousands of small earthquakes were reported in the area. This showed that magma was moving under the ground and that an eruption was about to happen.

Previous Eruptions in the Area

  • Geldingadalur Valley (March 2021): In Geldingadalur Valley, the first explosion in the area happened and lasted for six months.
  • Meradalir Valley (August 2022): The second eruption happened in the Meradalir Valley and lasted for three weeks.
